About Botox and Dysport
The wrinkles between the eyebrows, on the forehead, and around the eyes are caused by the contraction of the underlying muscles.
When the muscle contracts, it wrinkles the overlying skin. Botox is a medication synthesized in the lab and injected into the skin to temporarily relax the facial muscles. It is made with botulinum toxin type A, a neuromodulator that blocks nerve signals to the muscles in the area where it is injected. What areas can Botox and Dypsort be used on?
Botox and Dysport are most commonly used to address lines and creases in the upper face:
- Horizontal forehead lines

In rare occasions, botulinum toxin injections with Botox can be used in the neck to prevent increased contraction of the neck platysma muscles. Botox Recovery and Results
Botox and Dysport injections take approximately 5-10 minutes to perform, and the effects of Botox take about 6 to 7 days to be visible.
Dysport injection results can be seen near the 4-day mark after injection. Each treatment lasts for about 3 to 4 months.
The primary risks with Botox and Dysport injections include bruising, swelling, and some localized redness at the injection site. Avoidance of alcohol, vitamin E, fish oil, and omega-3 acid-containing products for 5-6 days prior to injection will help minimize the risk of bruising and swelling. Post-procedure, patients can take Arnica Montana supplements to further diminish the risk of bruising and swelling.
Following Botox injections Houston patients typically have a slight amount of redness at the injection site. These red areas look very similar to a small mosquito bite. Ice can be applied to these areas immediately after injection to reduce any side effects.
