Rhinoplasty – Not Just for Young Men & Women

Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, was
the third most popular facial plastic surgery performed in the past year, according to a recent report. What’s
even more interesting is that more people in their 40s and 50s are requesting nose surgery than ever before.

This may be, in part, due to advancements in medical technology allowing for successful, natural-looking results that
can improve signs of facial aging, as well as a trend toward starting with nonsurgical treatments like injectables
until signs of aging become more noticeable and no longer respond as well to nonsurgical options.

If you are considering rhinoplasty as an older adult, you could certainly be a good candidate, as long as you are in
good overall health. Here, Dr. Athré explains some of the key factors to consider when planning rhinoplasty in your
40s, 50s or beyond.

Rhinoplasty in Your 40s

In your 40s, rhinoplasty can address both cosmetic and functional concerns that may have developed or become more
pronounced with age
. Aging can lead to changes in nasal structure, such as a drooping nasal tip or a more prominent
dorsal hump. Rhinoplasty in your 40s can correct these issues, resulting in a more youthful and refreshed look.
Recovery tends to be smooth in this age group, as the skin retains some elasticity and healing is efficient.

Rhinoplasty in Your 50s

In your 50s, rhinoplasty often focuses on addressing signs of aging that affect the nose, such as a drooping tip,
thinning skin or changes in cartilage that can alter the shape of your nose. In some cases, men and women in their
50s choose to combine rhinoplasty with other facial rejuvenation procedures, such as a facelift or eyelid surgery, to address multiple facial
aging concerns at the same time.

While the skin may be slightly less elastic and slower to heal in this age group, recovery is still generally smooth,
and Dr. Athré can achieve effective, natural-looking results and a more youthful and refreshed overall appearance.

Rhinoplasty Over 60

Rhinoplasty in your 60s and older can begin to become more challenging, as the skin loses elasticity and the
cartilage becomes weaker, which may affect your recovery process and/or final surgical outcome. While there is no
specific age cutoff for having nose surgery, age can become a factor in your 60s and beyond for these reasons.

However, for those in good health and with realistic expectations, rhinoplasty can still provide significant
improvements for the right candidates in their 60s.
